Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is an inexhaustible resource, unlike fossil fuels, and technologies are developing to utilise processes for transfer to usable energy.  The following types would be considered as renewable energy: Solar energy, wind energy or water energy.

Currently, the global energy supply is mainly based on exhaustible and not on renewable energy sources such, as uranium, coal, oil and natural gas. The supply of these exhaustible energy sources will be come to an end within the  approx. twenty to thirty years.

The Swiss government has set a target to cut fossil fuel use 20% by the year 2020. 85% of the energy sources are imported, mostly derived from fossil fuels. Hydropower therefore is Switzerland's most important domestic source of renewable energy.
